Board of Trustees

New Suffolk Common School has a three-person Board of Trustees, which holds meetings on the second Tuesday of every month. These meetings are always open to the public, and we welcome you to join us to listen in, provide feedback, and in general participate in the direction of our unique school.

As a group, we are continually striving to facilitate the best possible learning and teaching environment for the students and teachers. We also have the unique responsibility of working alongside the community to preserve the school building and grounds as a mainstay of the New Suffolk culture and history.

Lisa Zissel | Chairperson

Lisa grew up in New Suffolk and attended New Suffolk School through fourth grade. Lisa graduated from Southold High School in 2003 and attended Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, North Carolina where she earned both her Bachelors in Finance and Masters in Accountancy. Lisa worked as an Investment Banker focused on Mergers & Acquisitions for over a decade both in New York and Washington D.C. Lisa and her family moved from Maryland back to New Suffolk in 2019, looking to be closer to her family and to raise her children on the North Fork.

Lisa works from home as a Principal at an Independent Sponsor - looking to build National Security companies. She has two young children and is excited to have them grow up in New Suffolk, and to be right across the street from her parents.

Brooke Dailey | Vice-Chairperson

Brooke moved to New Suffolk in 1987 with her family and attended New Suffolk School from Grades 3-6. Upon graduation from Southold High School in 1996, she attended the Syracuse University Newhouse School of Public Communications, earning a degree in Television/Radio/Film Management. Brooke worked in advertising in the Syracuse market until 2006 when she and her husband, Patrick, decided to move back to Long Island to help her family establish and operate Laurel Stone Supply Plus, Inc.

Over the years, Brooke has served as Community Liaison (2007-2013) and past Trustee on the New Suffolk School Board (2013-2016). She has been involved in fundraising for the school as a past member and President of the New Suffolk School Educational Enrichment Fund; providing new playground equipment, yearbooks, bus trips and other extracurricular experiences for New Suffolk students. Brooke also served on the Mattituck Chamber of Commerce as a member and past President from 2007-2016.

Brooke currently works from her home in New Suffolk for an advertising agency out of upstate NY. She has two daughters, both of whom attended New Suffolk School for their elementary education and are now secondary students at Southold Jr.-Sr. High School. Brooke is appreciative of the opportunity to represent the current experience of parents and students in the New Suffolk School District on the Board of Trustees. She hopes to be an integral part of providing for the ever-changing standards and needs of students while preserving the historical legacy and presence of New Suffolk School in the community.

Deborah Carroll | Board Trustee

Deborah has been a resident of New Suffolk for over 40 years and can hear the peal of the school’s bell each morning.  She has 3 daughters all of whom were born in Manhattan but grew up on the North Fork. And, with her husband, she is a principal owner of the nearby Lenz Winery.

Deborah has been closely involved with K-12 schooling, having worked in the Admissions Department of the Chapin School in New York City since 2000.   This work has given her a deep appreciation for the importance of school culture and obtaining the right balance between academics, creativity and the joy of learning, something that has always been a key goal at the New Suffolk School.

Deborah and her family all recognize the unique cultural ambience of New Suffolk, a village that combines a deep respect for history and tradition with an awareness of contemporary trends.  As a Trustee of the school, Deborah will work to support the school’s central mission and its continuing important role in the life of the village.
