Principal Gallagher Seeking Feedback on Draft Letter
Principal Chris Gallagher is seeking feedback and comments on the draft letter posted below.
Dear Parent or Guardian,
The fall season reminds us that colder weather is approaching, and with that, some adjustments to the way we conduct outdoor recess. The purpose of this letter is to inform you about those adjustments. In the warmer months, we have outdoor recess every day that it is not raining. When it gets colder, however, there are some days when it is too cold for outdoor recess.
The criteria for having outdoor recess are:
- The wind chill is 32 degrees or higher;
- It is not raining, sleeting, or snowing;
- The playground is not covered with snow.
If the wind chill is 20 degrees or higher, or if the playground is covered in snow, we will provide an opportunity for a brief walk around the block or school, so that the students get some fresh air during the day. If the wind chill is below 20 degrees, or if it is too icy to walk safely, we will remain inside for all of the recess period.
We ask that you make sure your child has the proper clothing (hat, gloves, coat or winter jacket, etc.) for outdoor recess, or on the colder days, for a brief outdoor walk.
Thanks for your cooperation.
